Nicole T. Martinez, RN, NP, PhD, is a UCI Health nurse practitioner who is board-certified in both family and emergency medicine. She serves as director of the UCI Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing's Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
Martinez received her doctorate in Nursing from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in Nursing from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif. She has more than a decade of experience as an advanced practice provider in emergency health and primary care.
She previously served as clinical faculty director of the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Georgetown University's School of Nursing & Health Studies and as a clinical associate professor at the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego. She also worked for nearly 12 years with Pacific Emergency Providers and Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
Martinez is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP) and the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners (AAENP), for which she served as western regional director. She is also co-chair of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty Emergency Special Interest Group.
A published author, textbook and journal reviewer, she also contributes to Lippincott’s online procedural manual. is the dermatology column editor for the Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal, writes for She is also an item writer for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) and a member of the task force for Family Nurse Practitioner Practice Analysis.
Martinez' research interests are focused on emergency care, clinical decision-making, provider competencies and standards, and nurse practitioner leadership.
