Division of Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology
As Americans live longer, the focus of healthcare must be on making people's later years both healthier and more meaningful.
The Division of Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology is dedicated to training future physicians to provide superb, compassionate care to older adults and their families. We work closely with 14 medical services — including anesthesiology, emergency medicine, psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine and oncology — to incorporate geriatric training for medical students, residents and fellows, with a special emphasis on learning to build patient-doctor relationships.
UC Irvine's Division of Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology is nationally recognized for its Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect. Through our faculty members, the center bridges academics and service to provide services to abused and neglected seniors. It also serves as a central resource for information and multidisciplinary training to address elder mistreatment.
