Annual Burn Symposium

Join UCI Health for the 6th Annual Burn Symposium, during which experts will discuss At the Bedside: The Nuts and Bolts of Burn and Wound CareWe will take a closer look at both burns and wounds from a clinical perspective with a focus on understanding the pathophysiology and how it presents in the acute care setting. We will explore clinical decision making with regards to various skin substitutes and how to care for them from both a nursing and therapy perspective. Breakouts will include hands on wound care for nurses and rehabilitation specific topics.

Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Identify the difference between partial and full thickness tissue injuries. 

  2. List normal phases of wound healing and able to identify characteristics of stalled wounds. 

  3. Name 2 skin substitutes used to cover full thickness wounds. 

  4. Summarize different categories of dressings and the rationale for their use. 

  5. Able to return demonstration for burn and wound care techniques. 

  6. Identify challenges to improve patient compliance with splinting and positioning of the neck and torso in order to prevent loss of function, improve activities of daily living, and return to occupation.
