Art of Tai Chi - Medicine in Motion (intermediate)

Learn the art of tai chi, which is frequently described as "meditation in motion." The mind-body practice has been shown to have many benefits, including improving muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Tai chi can be performed by people of all ages.

The class is led by world-renowned tai chi expert Shin Lin, PhD.

Lin has trained with each of the grandmasters of five major tai chi styles, including the iconic Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, 19th-generation family heir of the Chen Style from China's Chen Village, where tai chi originated.

In 2010, Lin was formally accepted into the inner circle of Grandmaster Chen's students. He is also a world leader in the application of modern biomedical technologies to study the benefits of tai chi/qigong on mind-body functions and body energy measured as heat, light and electricity.

Lin serves on the U.S. National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health and the editorial boards of Chinese Medicine and the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. He is co-chair of the World Congress of Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and co-creator of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day. He has made presentations at numerous national and international conferences and has appeared on major television and radio network programs.

Classes meet in the Sprague Hall Foyer on the UCI Main Campus, 839 Health Sciences Road, Irvine, CA 92697.
