More Information

Dr. Robert Lingua is a board-certified UCI Health ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric and adult eye disorders.

His clinical interests include adapting advances in adult surgical procedures to particularly difficult needs of the pediatric patient. For example, Lingua has adapted the use of refractive surgical technologies used for elective procedures in adult patients to address the problem of intractable amblyopia in children.

Lingua also is developing surgical techniques to treat involuntary eye movement (nystagmus), and on finding solutions for children whose developmental disabilities preclude the use of traditional eye wear. These children, whose severe refractive vision problems may go uncorrected, could benefit developmentally if they could see without eyeglasses, which they often reject as part of their syndromal behavior.

Lingua earned his medical degree at the University of Southern California, where he also completed a surgical internship and general surgical residency. He also completed residencies in ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at USC.

He sees patients at the UCI Health Gavin Herbert Eye Institute in Irvine and at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.
