Aldrich Park.

Orange, Calif. — The 2024 UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 for its eighth year dedicated to raising funds and awareness for critical cancer research. Registration for the annual event launched on World Cancer Day, inviting individuals to ride, run or walk in-person at UCI Aldrich Park or participate virtually.

The community movement brings together participants, friends, family, patients and supporters for a day filled with festivities and a shared commitment to supporting research at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and CHOC - Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Event day activities include 5K/10K run/walks, various road bike routes and a mountain bike route.

Every participant-raised dollar helps fund innovative pilot projects and early phase clinical trials aimed at producing meaningful insights into cancer prevention, treatment and cures.

In 2023, the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge achieved remarkable success as a record 3,800 participants raised more than $1 million. This marked the second consecutive year that the event surpassed the $1 million mark, demonstrating the unwavering support of the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge community. The event's outstanding achievements in 2023 further solidified its impact and commitment to funding groundbreaking research.

Throughout the year, the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge hosts free lead-up events for the public to learn more about the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge. These events include rallies with training rides, runs and walks as well as an annual research reception with lab tours and opportunities to meet with funded cancer researchers.

The 2024 community calendar will also feature exciting new lead-up events. The first-ever UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge kickoff will take place in May, where Dr. Richard Van Etten, director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and founder of the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge, will announce the list of newly funded cancer projects made possible through the event. Participants can also look forward to connecting with one another and learning about valuable fundraising tips at the new summer virtual sessions.
