As Orange County’s only verified combined Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center, UCI Medical Center is uniquely equipped to provide patients of all ages the complete spectrum of care for critical and traumatic injuries 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
As Orange County’s only university medical center, we also have vast medical resources that can be tapped any time, day or night, including a blood bank and leading experts in emergency medicine, neurosurgery, stroke care, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, head and neck surgery, orthopaedic surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, anesthesiology, radiology and pharmacology.
- Our Level I adult trauma center designation has been certified repeatedly by the American College of Surgeons for meeting the highest standards of trauma care.
- Our designation in 2012 as Orange County's first Level II pediatric trauma center also has been recertified by the American College of Surgeons.
- We are the only trauma center in Orange County where all surgeons are board-certified surgical intensivists, who have general surgical training as well as specialized training in surgical critical care.
- All our inpatient operating rooms in UCI Douglas Hospital are equipped with the most advanced imaging and surgical technology.
- The hospital also is equipped with state-of-the-science intensive care units (ICUs) for adult and pediatric surgery patients, as well as for patients with burns and neurological conditions.
- We also have Orange County’s only active trauma and critical care research program, putting us at the forefront of trauma study. Our patients benefit because the newest information, technologies and potentially life-saving techniques are applied to their care.
At UCI Health, we are dedicated to giving our patients the best possible care, from admission through treatment and after discharge. We provide full rehabilitation services and continuing outpatient care until you are fully recovered.
The trauma and critical care team at UCI Health sees and treats a wide range of serious and life-threatening injuries, including:
- Spleen and liver injuries
Spleen and liver injuries are the most common abdominal injuries after blunt trauma, and often result from a car crash or fall.
The most common injury requiring intensive care is traumatic brain injury (TBI), including concussion. We work closely with neurosurgeons to provide swift and aggressive state-of-the-art care for TBI.
- Post-operative pulmonary failure
Our team also treats non-trauma patients who have critical illnesses. Our emphasis is on cutting-edge ventilator techniques, aggressive pain management, prompt nutritional care and comprehensive critical care.
