Dr. Kari J. Kansal is a board-certified UCI Health surgical oncologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating breast cancer and benign breast diseases. She is highly skilled in nipple-sparing mastectomy and minimally invasive Hidden Scar breast surgery.
Her clinical interests include caring for patients with breast cancer, specifically young women and pregnancy-related breast cancer, as well as patients at higher risk for developing breast malignancies. She also works collaboratively with our Integrative Health Services providers.
Kansal earned her medical degree at University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. She completed an internship and residency in general surgery at UC San Diego, where she also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. She completed a second fellowship, in breast surgical oncology, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She joined UCI Health after serving as a breast oncology surgery instructor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Her research interests include surgical outcomes in breast cancer patients as well as surgical education. She has published several research papers and book chapters in her field.
Kansal sees patients at UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange and UCI Health Pacific Breast Care Center in Costa Mesa.
