Memory Disorders Services

Everyone has instances of forgetfulness. Often it is just a nuisance. But if memory loss is making it difficult to handle normal activities, the specialists with the UCI Health Memory Disorders Program can help.

Our memory disorders specialists lead the way in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of memory and cognitive disorders, including mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. All our patients receive state-of-the-art, compassionate care.

We offer comprehensive memory assessments and neurological examinations in a supportive environment. We conduct the tests at both the SeniorHealth Center, located at UCI Medical Center in Orange, and at Gottschalk Medical Plaza on the university campus in Irvine.

Our UCI Health memory disorders specialists diagnose dementia using neurologic exams, neuropsychological testing and brain imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans. Each patient receives highly personalized care.

When appropriate, patients have access to leading-edge techniques to assist with diagnosis, such as a lumbar puncture or a positron emission tomography (PET) scan that is performed in combination with the drug Amyvid to determine whether amyloid plaque is present.

As clinicians and researchers, we also are committed to studying memory disorders and to matching interested patients to research opportunities at UCI Health and throughout the region.

We work closely with UCI Health physicians at the SeniorHealth Center and elsewhere to ensure that each patient receives individualized care for all their needs.
