Dr. Coleen K. Cunningham is a UCI Health pediatrician who serves as chair of the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics and senior vice president and pediatrician-in-chief at CHOC Children's Hospital of Orange County.

A specialist in pediatric infectious diseases, Cunningham is renowned for her work on HIV and AIDS in children.

She earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y., where she completed a residency in pediatrics followed by a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases.

Cunningham came to UC Irvine from Duke University Medical Center, where she served as a professor with tenure for pediatrics and pathology, a research professor of global health and vice chair for research for pediatrics.

The author of more than 130 published manuscripts, she also has led many multicenter clinical trials aimed at the treatment and prevention of HIV infection in children. She has been awarded several competitive research grants and served on National Institutes of Health grant review panels. Her education focus is the training of pediatric infectious diseases physician-scientists.
