Abdominal Pain

Chronic abdominal pain is devastating and can seriously impair your life. It can lead to loss of productivity, loss of sleep, and may cause feelings of embarrassment and depression.

Many different conditions can cause abdominal pain. You should be seen by a gastroenterologist to rule out any anatomical or medical causes that can be corrected. If you have no “correctable” cause for your pain, the experience can be extremely frustrating.

Chronic pancreatitis

Chronic pancreatitis is long-standing inflammation of the pancreas that alters its normal structure and function. This can lead to its destruction.

The pancreas, which is located behind the stomach, secretes digestive enzymes into the small intestine to help digest fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Chronic pancreatitis may result in repeated and severe flare-ups of their disease, between relatively pain-free periods. You may also experience continuous symptoms of pain, along with weight loss and diarrhea.

Surgical scar pain

People undergoing abdominal surgery often have persistent pain along their surgical scars. Scar pain (also known as scar neuroma pain) affects a significant number of individuals. Neuromas can occur after trauma and even after surgery in any region in the body, since most areas have nerve fibers providing feeling.

The ends of these nerves grow in an unregulated fashion and form a pain generating structure known as a neuroma. Neuromas, especially along belt and bra lines, can be extremely painful and may prevent you from wearing the clothing you would like to wear.
