UCI Health burn center to accept contributions for victims of apartment fire

January 22, 2015

The UC Irvine Burn Survivor Fund will accept contributions to help the family of Maricela Sanchez defray funeral expenses.

Maricela, 20, and her son Jaiden, 3, died this week of injuries they suffered in an apartment fire Tuesday morning in San Juan Capistrano. Nine adults and children were taken to local hospitals, including Maricela and another relative to UC Irvine Medical Center.

The UCI Health Regional Burn Center treats hundreds of patients with burn injuries each year. Part of its mission is to support burn survivors as they recover from their injuries.

“This is such an unusual tragedy that we wanted to help this family with some of the funeral costs for Maricela and her son,” said Jennifer Cash, burn program manager.

Cash said the burn center would send contributions to the family’s chosen mortuary.
