IN THE NEWS: To celebrate Mother’s Day, the Orange County Register honored six “Inspiring Moms.” A UCI Health infectious disease expert and mother of two, Dr. Susan Huang, was recognized for her achievement in establishing a new standard of care to prevent the spread of MRSA infections in health care settings.

Huang says being “super-organized” and making lists are the secret to her work-life balance, which encompasses speaking engagements in the United States and abroad, classroom instruction as a professor at UC Irvine, serving as the medical director for epidemiology and infection prevention at UC Irvine Medical Center, and leading three clinical trials focused on identifying new infection prevention strategies.

When she's not traveling, Huang doctor leaves the office by 5 p.m. to get home to her husband Alfred, 10-year-old daughter Emily and 8 year-old son Joshua. Once a week, the family makes time to play board games together, in harmony with her “work hard, play hard” philosophy.
