Bogi Andersen, MD

Dr. Bogi Andersen is a board-certified UCI Health endocrinologist and Professor in the departments of Medicine and Biological Chemistry at UC Irvine. His clinical and research interests span endocrinology, metabolism, skin biology and circadian rhythms, with a particular focus on how the body's internal clock influences skin health and disease.

Andersen earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, where he also completed his internship. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital in Ohio, followed by a fellowship in molecular biology at Case Western Reserve University. He furthered his specialty training with a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the UC San Diego. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and endocrinology and metabolism, and he actively participates in the American Board of Internal Medicine's Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment program.

He joined the UC Irvine faculty in 2001. For nearly two decades, he served as Program Director of the Fellowship Program in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes at UC Irvine. He currently serves as Co-leader of the Skin Disease Oriented Team at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Director of the UCI Skin Biology Resource-based Center and Co-director of both the CIRM Scholars Comprehensive Research Training Program and the T32 Training Program in Interdisciplinary Skin Research.

Andersen's research has been published in leading medical journals, and he is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Athalie Clarke Achievement Award, the Howard Hughes faculty start-up award, the Clinical Investigator Award and fellowships from the American Heart Association and the Fogarty International program.
