When you come to UCI Health for back pain and spine problems, you receive some of the very best care in the world. Here’s why:

Pioneering spine surgery

The first West Coast robot-assisted spinal surgery was performed by UCI Health spine specialists. Our surgeons teach other surgeons around the world the techniques they have perfected.

Our robotic guidance system enables us to perform any spine surgery, no matter how complex, with greater accuracy, less pain and less radiation. Our patients also experience faster recoveries.

The system includes a computerized work station that allows us to use highly sophisticated imaging of a patient’s spine and customize a surgical plan tailored to each patient’s anatomy, then plot precisely — to within one millimeter, or 1/25th of an inch — the location to make incisions and place implants. The surgeon then uses the robotic guidance arm to carry out the pre-operation plan.

Second opinion consultations

The spine experts at the UCI Health Comprehensive Spine Center offer a research study that evaluates the role second opinions play in deciding to have spine surgery. This study allows individuals to seek a second opinion for spine surgery at UCI Health, at no cost, for those that meet the eligibility criteria. Learn more about second opinions for spine surgery ›
