IN THE NEWS: UCI Health CEO Chad Lefteris was named in the Orange County Business Journal’s OC50 report featuring the top 50 leaders shaping the future of healthcare in Orange County.
Lefteris, listed under the “Next-Gen Hospitals” category, was recognized for leading the county’s only academic health system, which includes UCI Medical Center and primary and specialty care locations throughout Orange County and parts of Riverside and Los Angeles counties.
He is also overseeing the construction of UCI Health — Irvine, an all-electric, $1.3 billion medical complex the size of three football fields on the corner of Jamboree Road and Birch Street.
“You’ve got enough to worry about. It’s about bringing our experts to you. When you live in south county, you won’t have to drive 45 minutes to an hour to get up to Orange.”
The UCI Health—Irvine project includes a 144-bed acute care hospital with an emergency room, the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building.
Also mentioned in the report in the “Hearts and Minds” category was Joshua Grill, director of the UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), Orange County’s only state and federally funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Grill conducts research on cognitive impairments, performs clinical trials on promising treatments and provides training on brain aging and neurodegeneration.
