Language Services
The UCI Health Language Services Program makes interpreter services available to UCI Health patients and their loved ones.
If your English is limited or if you are speech or hearing impaired, interpretation will be provided at no cost to you.
When you check in for your appointment, please let your provider’s staff know that you need an interpreter and they will request one for you.
Language Interpreter Services
On-staff Spanish- and Vietnamese-speaking interpreters can be requested at:
- Douglas Hospital
- Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Neuropsychiatric Center
Ask your doctor or nurse to contact us and an in-person interpreter will be provided, depending on availability.
Vietnamese-speaking staff interpreters are available on a limited basis Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spanish-speaking staff interpreters are available on a limited basis Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Telephone interpreting services are available in 260 languages throughout the medical center.
Video interpreting services are available in more than 25 languages. Both these services are available in most languages 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
American Sign Language Interpreting
Interpretation for American Sign Language (ASL) is available by video remote, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To request an interpreter, ask your doctor or nurse to contact us.
UC Irvine Medical Center also has two TTY machines available for public use. They are located in:
- Building B1 (Douglas Hospital), 2nd floor, surgical waiting room
- Building B1A (University Hospital Tower), 1st floor, Emergency Department waiting room

To communicate with a medical center operator, call 800-735-2929 (TTY).
