Christopher A. Tomongin, MD

Christopher Tomongin, MD, FACEP, is a physician executive, emergency medicine leader and healthcare quality strategist with more than 20 years of experience in clinical operations, quality improvement, physician engagement and healthcare transformation. He has combined frontline clinical practice with executive leadership to improve patient outcomes, operational performance and physician engagement across community hospitals, academic health systems and physician organizations.

Tomongin serves as medical director of quality advisory for UCI Health — Placentia Linda, where he leads hospital quality initiatives, utilization review, clinical documentation improvement, coding integrity and performance improvement programs. He previously served as chief of staff at UCI Health — Lakewood, helping lead the hospital's transition from Tenet Healthcare to UCI Health by partnering with physicians, hospital administrators and executive leadership to guide organizational change and maintain physician engagement.

Before joining UCI Health leadership, Tomongin was regional medical director and site medical director for emergency department services at Lakewood Regional Medical Center and Los Alamitos Medical Center, where he oversaw emergency medicine operations, physician leadership development, staffing, quality improvement and financial performance. He continues to practice emergency medicine as a clinical associate in emergency medicine at UCI Health — Los Alamitos.

Tomongin earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed a residency in emergency medicine at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
