He earned his medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colo. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, followed by a fellowship in nephrology at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.
