Richard J. Straker, MD

Dr. Richard Straker is a board-certified UCI Health surgeon who specializes in surgery of the small intestine, colon, rectum and anus. This includes the medical and surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, colon and rectal cancer, anal cancer, benign anorectal disease and a multitude of other acute and chronic illnesses affecting the intestines. He has a special interest in performing minimally invasive surgery, maintaining/restoring gastrointestinal continuity and anal sphincter preservation.
He received his medical degree from the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship specializing in colon and rectal surgery at UC Irvine.
Straker is active in both clinical and translational research, with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
