He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the VA Hospital and Medical Center – Los Angeles, followed by additional residency training in internal medicine at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and a residency in anesthesiology at LAC+USC Medical Center.
