Emergency Medicine
Dr. Isabel M. Algaze Gonzalez is a UCI Health physician who specializes in emergency medicine. She is trained in primary hyperbaric medicine, avalanche medicine, dive medicine, mountain medicine as well as in coordinating emergency medical teams.
Algaze earned her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico, where she completed a residency in emergency medicine. She also completed fellowship training in wilderness medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital.
Her clinical interests include wilderness medicine, hyperbaric medicine, dive medicine, expedition medicine, global medicine and humanitarian aid. Her current research interests are in the treatment of box jellyfish stings and the relationship between acute mountain sickness and cognitive impairment.
Her goal is to continue to provide quality care to her patients and to expand knowledge in the fields of emergency medicine and wilderness medicine.
Algaze, who is fluent in English and Spanish, enjoys nature activities, including hiking, swimming, spelunking, kayaking, and paddle-boarding, as well as cross-country running with her dogs.
She sees patients at UC Irvine Medical Center's Emergency Department.
