Yama Akbari, MD

Dr. Yama Akbari is a board-certified UCI Health neurologist who specializes in neurocritical care, stroke and traumatic brain injury. His clinical focus is on caring for patients in the neuro-intensive care unit at UCI Medical Center.
He earned his medical degree and a PhD in neurobiology and behavior as part of the UCI School of Medicine's MD/PhD program. He then completed a neurology residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA followed by a fellowship in neurocritical care at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.
A physician-scientist, Akbari also conducts basic/preclinical, translational, and clinical research focused on consciousness, coma, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and cardiac arrest/CPR.
Akbari is a hospital-based physician who provides expert, in-patient care, but currently does not see patients by appointment in an ambulatory setting.
