Dr. Shiu-Yi E. Chen is a board-certified UCI Health anesthesiologist who specializes in pediatric anesthesiology. Her clinical interests include pediatric regional anesthesia and both acute and chronic pediatric pain management.

Chen received her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., followed by an internal medicine internship at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. Next, she completed a residency in anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, also in Baltimore, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

Before joining UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine, she treated patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and served as an assistant professor at Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Her research interests include pediatric pain management and regional anesthesia. She is the author or co-author of numerous research papers that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals. She also has been invited to give poster presentations and lectures on pediatric regional anesthesia and pain management at national conferences and workshops.
