Dr. Smita Kalra is a Clinical Professor in Department of Medicine within the Division of Hospital Medicine and Palliative Medicine. She is the director of hospitalist pre-operative clinic that helps optimize patients prior to their surgeries. She has been a practicing hospitalist for over 15 years with special clinical interest in peri-operative medicine as well as improving inpatient quality and safety for patient care.
Kalra is a local and national expert in perioperative medicine and has been an invited speaker to multiple national meetings where she has shared her work and helped build similar programs at other institutions.
She has focused her work on anemia in perioperative period with multiple publications on this topic and has led the work on establishing anemia optimization pathway through the UCI Health pre-operative clinic.
