Dr. Balbino Lopez is a board-certified UCI Health anesthesiologist who specializes in critical care medicine.

He provides care during and immediately after surgery, as well as for patients in intensive care, and specializes in trauma anesthesia and airway management.

Balbino earned his medical degree at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where he also completed a fellowship in critical care medicine. Before joining UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine, he worked at UChicago Medicine, where he served as deputy director of trauma anesthesia.  

His research interests include studying the changes in renal injury in post-cardiac surgery patients. He also developed the curriculum in intensive care airway management for non-anesthesia fellows. He also serves as director of trauma anesthesiology for UCI Health.
