Dr. John E. Sy is a board-certified UCI Health nephrologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and disorders. His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injuries, polycystic kidney disease, electrolyte disorders and dialysis.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, Calif., and a fellowship in nephrology at UC San Francisco, where he also received a master’s degree in clinical research.
His research interests include the impact of frailty on patients with chronic kidney disease, clinical outcomes of dialysis patients and anticoagulation among patients with chronic kidney disease.
Sy, who also is fluent in Hokkien Chinese, believes in working with his patients to improve their quality of life.
