Dr. Sonia R. Sehgal is a board-certified UCI Health internist who specializes in the care and treatment of older adults. Her clinical interests include healthy aging, hypertension, osteoporosis, preventive medicine and elder abuse.
She earned her medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada. She completed an internship and residents in internal medicine at Maricopa County Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., followed by a fellowship in geriatric medicine at UCI Medical Center.
In fall 2021, Sehgal was named one of 12 Dean's Scholars, a select group of UCI School of Medicine faculty members charged with implementing initiatives that advance the training and assessment of medical students' clinical skills and develop the next generation of medical education scholars and national leaders. She is also leading the medical school's expansion of its geriatric and gerontology program and its workforce development efforts.
And as the Archstone Foundation Endowed Chair, she will support the foundation's mission: "To improve the health and well-being of older Californians and their caregivers."
Sehgal, who is also fluent in Hindi, sees patients at the UCI Health SeniorHealth Center in Orange and at UCI Health — Laguna Hills.
