More Information
Dr. Edward M. Uchio is a board-certified UCI Health urologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of genitourinary tract malignancies, including prostate, bladder and testicular cancers.
His clinical expertise includes all areas of urologic oncology and he is skilled in the use of laparoscopic, robot-assisted and minimally invasive techniques — including cryoablation, radiofrequency and high-intensity focused ultrasound — as well as newer technologies and therapies that are only available in clinical trials. He also uses a new, more exacting imaging technology that combines magnetic resonance imaging with real-time, three-dimensional ultrasound to perform more accurate prostate biopsies.
Uchio earned his medical degree at the UCI School of Medicine followed by a residency in urology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Md., where his laboratory focus was on hereditary renal cancer syndromes such as von Hippel Lindau disease.
He is the director of clinical trial research for the School of Medicine's Department of Urology, and he been the principal investigator for more than 25 clinical studies, particularly in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.. He has given presentations internationally on the molecular basis of renal malignancies and is the author of numerous publications and book chapters on urologic cancers.
Uchio sees patients in Orange and Newport Beach.
