The UCI Health vascular and endovascular surgical team uses the most advanced technology and procedures to diagnosis and treat patients with all types of circulatory system conditions and diseases at UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County’s only Level 1 trauma center and university medical center.

We accept referrals from healthcare providers and surrounding medical centers for rare and complex vascular disorders. We also provide consultations to patients seeking a second opinion on treatment options and provide their primary care physicians with prompt feedback.

Treatments

Our fellowship-trained physicians are experts in traditional open, minimally invasive and endovascular medical and surgical treatments and procedures.

Endovascular approaches allow for safer, less-invasive treatment of blood vessels disorders, using very small incisions and catheters guided by radiologic imaging. These include dissolving blood clots, balloon angioplasty, stenting and plaque removal. 

We also treat very complex aneurysms with covered stents, eliminating the need for open surgical treatments. We also have special expertise in such complex problems as:

• Aortic aneurysms extending above the kidneys
• Blockages of arteries to the intestines and kidneys
• Thoracoabdominal aortic dissections

These advanced, less-invasive procedures mean that patients experience shorter hospital stays, less pain, fewer infections and faster recovery time. We perform the following open surgical techniques:

Other services

At UCI Health, we emphasize treatment of the whole patient, incorporating preventative and nonsurgical treatments for peripheral vascular diseases. This includes medical management with medications, dietary modification and exercise or physical therapy, and smoking cessation.

We also conduct lymphedema evaluations and offer a wound healing clinic for patients whose vascular disease inhibits proper healing.
