As part of the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County, our radiation oncology team offers state-of-the-art clinical services.
Radiation methods
We are the first in Orange County to use the groundbreaking TrueBeam STx and RapidArc™ radiotherapy systems, which are more accurate and faster than other delivery systems.
Our external radiation treatment methods include:
- Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).
We also offer internal radiation treatment, known as brachytherapy, using both high and low dose-rate radioactive sources.
Multidisciplinary specialists
Our team — which includes radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, medical dosimetrists and other specialists — works closely with your surgeon, medical oncologist and other healthcare professionals to ensure that your care is efficient, compassionate and comfortable.
Advances in technology and a better understanding of radiation’s effects on the body have made radiation oncology a key component in cancer treatment.
About 50 percent of patients diagnosed with cancer receive curative, supplemental or palliative radiation treatment externally and/or internally.
At UCI Health, our radiation oncology specialists harness this knowledge when treating patients with a confirmed or suspected malignancy. We also treat certain benign conditions that respond to radiation therapy.
