IN THE NEWS: Southern California Public Radio’s KPCC-FM tagged along while two UC Irvine medical students visited an older patient as part of a program that exposed students to the needs of older patients. “I think the program offers something that they can’t really learn out of a book,” says Sonia Sehgal, MD, who oversees the effort for UC Irvine’s Program in Geriatrics. “Really, just a true patient experience and life experience and living with a chronic condition. There’s no way to substitute that first-hand information that these students will get from their senior partner. You can’t read it in a book. They just have to experience it.”
