Dr. Garg to discuss eye diseases on Healthy OC

Dr. Sumit Garg, medical director of the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at UC Irvine, will appear this week on Healthy OC to discuss the latest developments and research into improving treatment for people with age-related macular degeneration.
Healthy OC airs on PBS SoCal, formerly known as KOCE-50. The interview will be broadcast during the Real Orange news program at 5:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 6. Please check the PBS SoCal Web site to find the channel on your cable provider.
Age-related macular degeneration is a condition in which a person loses of vision in the center of the visual field because of damage to the retina. Approximately 10 percent of people between 66 and 74 years of age develop macular degeneration. This increases to 30 percent for those over 75. People with a family history may be at higher risk to develop the condition.
