Childhood obesity rates continue to rise

IN THE NEWS: Almost 12.5 million children in the United States between 2 and 19 are obese. These rates of have almost tripled from just one generation ago. Dr. Dan Cooper, chairman of the UC Irvine’s pediatrics department, says the focus should be on providing kids in school with healthy foods and information about improving their lifestyles.
“Solving this problem is not going to be easy,” he says.
