Dr. Naghmeh S. Saberi is an expert in minimally invasive treatments for gynecological conditions

December 01, 2012
Naghmeh S. Saberi, MD, Obstetrician/Gynecologist

Surgery without large, open incisions is a proven advancement offered at UC Irvine, where women may have many treatment options when they face gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

The term for such procedures is “minimally invasive surgery,” or MIS. It includes a variety of techniques to surgically treat patients without subjecting them to traditional open procedures that involve more risks, larger scars and longer recovery times. MIS usually involves inserting instruments through small incisions in the skin, guided by a tiny camera called a laparoscope.

“The benefits of minimally invasive surgery are enormous,” says Dr. Naghmeh S.Saberi, assistant clinical professor in UC Irvine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology with special training in MIS. “It decreases the time the patient is in the hospital, recovery time is much faster, there is no large incision to heal or major scars, and patients can return to work or their normal lifestyle more quickly.”

UCI Health is emerging as a leader in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Our physicians have undergone significant additional training and experience to become skilled in MIS and yield positive outcomes. UC Irvine Medical Center also invests in state-of-the-art surgical instruments and technology, including robotic surgical systems.
