UCI Health expert highlights latest research on cannabis and pain

September 19, 2019

UCI Health invites the public to learn more about the latest research on cannabis and pain in the next Newport Beach Library Lecture Series – Medicine in Our Backyard at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Newport Beach Central Library.

Cannabis is being touted as a panacea for just about anything that ails you. Claims include lowering blood sugar, slowing Alzheimer’s disease, and alleviating a wide range of psychological problems—from anxiety to depression.

Dr. Brent G. Yeung, assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care at the UCI School of Medicine, will navigate the complex topic and highlight the latest research.

In the discussion titled: The Use of Cannabis for Pain-Fact, Fiction, and Everything in Between, Yeung will discuss:

  • Current evidence and indications for medicinal cannabis
  • Facts and fiction regarding cannabis for pain
  • The future of cannabis research and where do we go from here?

Yeung is a UCI Health anesthesiologist who specializes in the management and treatment of pain. His clinical interests include interventional procedures for chronic pain management and the use of cannabis for pain.

Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions following the presentations.

The Newport Beach Central Library is located at 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
