Exercise, cytokines, and growth factors in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis

This research project was designed to learn how exercise affects growth in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) children. Evaluations will be run to determine how exercise influences the hormones that control growth and whether or not these responses are affected by the joint disease. The information gathered from this study will be used to understand how exercise can be used to help children and adolescents with JRA participate in exercise programs in a healthy way.
Children and adolescent males and non-pregnant females (age 6-18) and healthy children and adolescent males and non-pregnant females (age 6-18).
Each test and control participant will be asked to participate in two separate testing sessions separated by at least one day. Session one will last 1 to 2 hours and session two will last 3 hours.
There will be no direct benefit to the participants from participation in the study.
Each participant will receive twenty-five dollars ($25.00) upon completion of each study session.
