She earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, N.Y. She completed a residency in general surgery at the UCI School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in surgical critical care at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, Calif.
