Dr. Valery C. Vilchez is a fellowship-trained UCI Health surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgical techniques to treat diseases of the colon and rectum.

Her clinical and research interests include a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of recurrent or advanced colon and rectal cancers, complex inflammatory bowel disease conditions, pelvic floor disorders and anorectal disease.

Vilchez earned her medical degree from the University of Zulia Faculty of Medicine in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She completed her residency in general surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, followed by fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the UCI School of Medicine.

She is the author or co-author of more than a dozen peer-reviewed research papers that have appeared in prominent medical journals and she has been an invited panelist and presenter at numerous national and international conferences. She also reviews manuscripts for the American Journal of Surgery.

Vilchez, who is also fluent in Spanish, is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in medicine, for global health and equity in healthcare. She sees patients in Orange and Costa Mesa.
