MyChart Patient Portal FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions about MyChart

What is MyChart and what can I do with a MyChart account?

MyChart is an online patient portal that gives patients secure access to their health records. It enables patients to securely manage and receive information about their health.

With a verified MyChart account, you can:

  • Schedule, request, reschedule and cancel appointments
  • View upcoming appointments and procedures
  • View test results
  • Request prescription renewals
  • Communicate electronically and securely with your care team
  • View letters and notes created by your healthcare team
  • View and pay bills
  • View your health summary
  • Share portions of your medical record with non-UCI Health providers using Share Everywhere
  • Access trusted health information resources
  • And more!

How is my health information on MyChart protected?

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames and passwords. Each person controls their password, and the account cannot be accessed without that password.

Unlike conventional e-mail, all messages between you and your healthcare team are exchanged while you are securely logged in to MyChart. MyChart is fully compliant with federal and state laws pertaining to your privacy.

How do I create a MyChart account?

At your next scheduled visit, ask your UCI Health care team to sign you up for MyChart. Your care team will help ensure your information in MyChart is accurate and up-to-date so they can provide you with the best, personalized care. Once this step is complete, they can help you register on the spot or give you an activation code so that you can register at home.

If you already have an activation code, visit my.ucihealth.org and select "sign up now."

I received a MyChart activation code. What do I do next?

Your MyChart activation code is a unique code that lets you create a MyChart account.

After you receive an activation code, visit my.ucihealth.org and select "sign up now." If you need additional support, call 1-833-4MYCHRT (1-833-469-2478), 6 a.m.–10 p.m, seven days a week.

My activation code does not work. What should I do?

For your security, your activation code expires 30 days after it is generated or is no longer valid after it has been used. If you are having issues with your activation code, call MyChart Patient Support at 1-833-4MYCHRT (1-833-469-2478), 6 a.m.–10 p.m., seven days a week.

Can I view a family member's health information in MyChart?

Yes, proxy access is available in certain situations. Proxy access allows parents or guardians to log in to their personal MyChart account and connect to a family member’s account. If you are interested in obtaining proxy access, complete a proxy consent form and return it to your doctor’s office.

Parents/guardians of children ages 0-11 can receive full access to their child’s account. To protect adolescent confidentiality for children ages 12-17, UCI Health uses a proxy policy that is compliant with state regulations. With proxy access, parents and guardians of adolescents are allowed to view certain test results, allergy history, family history and immunizations, but they cannot view the full health summary, medications, medical history, current health issues, messages and appointments.

Can my spouse and I share one MyChart account?

No. Due to the sensitive nature of medical information, each adult must sign and submit a release of information request and establish their own MyChart account.

Can I ask questions regarding a family member from my MyChart account?

No. MyChart offers direct access to your personal health record only.

Am I able to set up a MyChart account for a family member?

Yes. Where legally permitted and when it is available, you can set up a MyChart account for a family member. Parents or legal guardians may request proxy access to view their child's record. Once access is granted, the child’s parent or guardian can use their MyChart account to access the child's information. If you are the caregiver for an adult patient, you may be granted proxy access once a verification and documentation process is complete.
