Healthcare moving toward flexible digital options for better patient care
UCI Health information technology expert says medicine will be less hospital-centric by 2030
IN THE NEWS: Dr. Deepti Pandita, vice president of clinical informatics and chief medical information officer at UCI Health, told Becker’s Hospital Review that by 2030, healthcare will be shifting from traditional hospital care in favor of flexible digital options to meet patient needs.
Pandita says that the models “will need new leadership skillsets that are technology savvy, can thrive under financial uncertainty and changing reimbursement models and are able to balance innovation against sustainability.”
Pandita is a national leader in the field of clinical and medical informatics and currently drives artificial intelligence governance, digital transformation and clinician efficiency initiatives. In 2024, she co-authored a position paper by the American College of Physicians, clarifying the organization’s position on AI technologies and providing recommendations for their use when giving care.
Her digital solutions have improved the health of communities, eased the cognitive burden of clinicians and promoted the wellness of the clinical workforce. Pandita’s work has also reduced the average patient stay in the hospital, saved costs and improved operational efficiencies.
