Treatments

We offer a variety of surgical and nonsurgical treatments to our patients. They include:

Cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures

Skin augmentation with collagen, hyaluronic acids and other materials can improve your appearance by filling instead of stretching the skin. As we grow older, the skin thins and tends to develop wrinkles and folds. Sometimes a lifting procedure is appropriate, but often a filler agent will work best to smooth out sagging skin.

Laser surgery

We are the leading provider of novel laser surgical techniques on the West Coast. Our clinicians have helped develop some of the most effective and innovative laser and light systems available for rejuvenation and remodeling of skin. We also are affiliated with the nearby Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic, one of the world’s leading research institutes in this field.

We offer laser surgery for:

Photo-rejuvenation of the skin

As we age, and our skin becomes weathered, certain changes can occur. Many methods are available to correct this process and that can create a natural and rejuvenated look to the skin.

Birthmarks

Birthmarks come in all shapes and sizes, and may consist of blood vessels, pigmentation, and other abnormal collections of tissue. Selective methods for their removal can achieve maximal improvement without significant scarring or textural change to the skin.

Our dermatology laser specialists at the Vascular Birthmarks & Malformations Diagnostic Treatment Center are leaders in the treatment of port-wine stains and other disfiguring birthmarks.

Rosacea and pigmentation treatments

Rosacea is one of the most common indications for laser surgery. Troublesome blood vessels or blushing of the face can be removed without scarring using a number of lasers, particularly the KTP and pulsed dye lasers.

Pigmentation associated with chronic sun exposure also can be removed selectively and with minimal damage. Some treatments, such as intense pulsed light, can remove blood vessels and pigmentation and also “tone,” or rejuvenate, the skin at the same time.

Scar improvement

Scars can be a cause for concern, particularly if they are located in visible areas on the face or body. Fortunately, we can improve the look of many scars with intralesional injections of steroids, lasers and topical dressings. However, sometimes the best treatment is often benign neglect, as most scars fade with time.

Hair removal

Electrolysis has stood the test of time in the slow permanent removal of hair, but laser-assisted hair removal is faster, more comfortable and effective. However, lasers still cannot effectively remove all hair, particularly blond and red hair. And in some patients, the lasers may only thin the hair. Laser hair removal is not permanent in all patients, and in a small number of people, it can actually increase hair growth.

Tattoo removal

Although laser surgery can be incredibly effective at removing some tattoos, others may take multiple treatments. In other cases, laser surgery may only partially remove some colors and, in a few cases, cause scarring in the process.

Acne and psoriasis treatments

Our dermatologic surgeons have been at the forefront of developing and using the latest laser treatments for treating such common medical issues as acne, psoriasis and rosacea.

Light therapy

We are the only practice in Orange County to provide the complete range of phototherapy services under the supervision of board-certified dermatologists.

  • We offer photochemotherapy (PUVA) to treat moderate to severe psoriasis (covering more than 20 percent of the skin) and psoriasis that has not responded to other treatments.
  • We provide narrowband UVB, a powerful targeted phototherapy treatment that can slow the growth of psoriasis lesions.
  • We also use light therapy for localized hand and foot treatments.
