Important Update for Blue Shield of California Members

UCI Health is actively negotiating with Blue Shield of California to remain in network and continue providing uninterrupted care to our patients. If a new agreement is not reached, UCI Health may be out of network for Blue Shield of California members beginning Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

This change could impact patients with the following plans:

  • California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) plans
  • Employer-sponsored Blue Shield of California plans
  • Covered California marketplace plans
  • Medicare Advantage plans administered by Blue Shield of California

What happens now

You can continue to see your UCI Health providers and receive care without disruption through June 30, 2025. We remain committed to delivering the care you expect and deserve.

If a new agreement is not reached, Blue Shield of California may consider UCI Health out of network beginning July 1, 2025. This could result in higher out-of-pocket costs or loss of coverage for services provided at UCI Health, depending on your individual plan.

We are working in good faith to reach a fair agreement with Blue Shield of California that supports continued access to care, without added costs or interruptions for our patients.

What you can do

If you have questions about your coverage, please contact Blue Shield of California’s member services team at the number listed on your insurance card. You can also express your desire to continue receiving care from UCI Health.

Some patients may have the right to continue seeing their current provider for a designated period of time. To explore this option, contact Blue Shield of California. UCI Health is in active negotiations with Blue Shield of California to remain in network and continue caring for our patients without disruption.

If we are unable to reach a new agreement by Tuesday, July 1, 2025, UCI Health may no longer be in network for Blue Shield of California members. Until then, nothing is changing – patients can continue receiving care from UCI Health as usual.

If no agreement is reached, this change could affect Blue Shield of California members across several plan types, including:

  • CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) plans
  • Employer-sponsored Blue Shield of California plans
  • Covered California marketplace plans
  • Medicare Advantage plans administered by Blue Shield of California

All UCI Health facilities, clinicians and hospitals are part of this negotiation. The agreement ensures continued access to the full range of UCI Health services for Blue Shield of California members.

Despite ongoing negotiations, Blue Shield of California has started the process to transfer HMO members to new clinicians of its choosing, effective July 1, 2025. This decision was made solely by Blue Shield and may result in care disruptions or treatment delays.

If you are a Blue Shield HMO member receiving care at UCI Health, you may be eligible to continue seeing your clinician for a limited period. Please contact Blue Shield’s member services department using the number on your insurance card. You may also reach the California Department of Managed Health Care at 888-466-2219 (TTY: 877-688-9891) or visit www.dmhc.ca.gov.

If you choose to request continued access to your UCI Health clinician, our care teams are available to assist you with the required form. A link to the form is available at ucihealth.org/blueshield.

At this time, you can continue receiving care at UCI Health through June 30, 2025. If an agreement is not reached, Blue Shield PPO members could face higher out-of-pocket costs or changes in coverage starting July 1, 2025. We remain focused on negotiating a fair agreement that avoids disruptions to your care.
