Trauma and critical care surgeon and chief Dr. Jeffry Nahmias selected as American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators member
He is one of of only approximately 250 surgeons worldwide selected for the prestigious honor
Orange, Calif. — Dr. Jeffry Nahmias, a trauma and critical care surgeon at UCI Health and chief of the Division of Trauma, Burns, Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, has been selected as a full member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. Nahmias is one of only approximately 250 surgeons worldwide who have been selected for the prestigious honor.
He joined the body as an associate member in 2025. Members are chosen through a rigorous peer-review process.
The aim of the ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators is to recognize and assemble a cadre of renowned master surgeon educators who will work closely with the ACS Division of Education to advance the science and practice of avant-garde surgical education and training.
He is the first current UCI Health faculty member to be chosen which reflects his sustained excellence as a surgeon educator and his deep commitment to training the next generation of surgeons, according to Dr. Robert Redfield, a transplant surgeon at UCI Health and interim chair, Department of Surgery and chief, Division of Transplantation at UC Irvine School of Medicine.
In 2023, Nahmias received the Marianne Cinat, MD Memorial Award to honor his compassion and care in treating trauma victims and supporting their loved ones. The award honors a single Orange County physician who goes “above and beyond” the call of duty.
He also regularly participates in the annual Gun Violence Awareness Day at UCI Health and provides hands-on trauma and critical care training to the U.S. Navy through the UCI Health Military-Civilian Partnership. Most recently, he helped lead a shoreline pediatric simulation, providing UCI Health co-workers an opportunity to further hone their skills.
