Newsweek has ranked UCI Health as one
of America's Best Maternity Hospitals for
three consecutive years.

UCI Health has again been recognized as one of the best U.S. hospitals for maternity care by Newsweek. Its ranking among America's Best Maternity Hospitals 2023 for the third consecutive year highlights the academic health system’s commitment to give each expectant mother superb care and an excellent childbirth experience.

"This achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our team of physicians, nurses and support teams who work tirelessly to provide the highest quality care to mothers, newborns and their families,” said UCI Health CEO Chad T. Lefteris.

“UCI Health takes great pride in our ability to offer exceptional care, including for complex cases that require the expertise of an academic health system. This recognition further solidifies our reputation as a premier healthcare provider in Orange County and beyond."

The rankings are based on:

  • A nationwide online survey of healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes
  • Hospital quality metrics relevant to maternity care from a variety of public sources were collected with a focus on indicators relevant to maternity care
  • Patient survey results

Only hospitals that met the minimum thresholds for all three data sources were eligible for the analysis.

A leader in ob-gyn services

UCI Health has consistently been among the nation's top hospitals for gynecology services, ranking No. 24 in the 2022-23 U.S. News America’s Best Hospitals report. UCI Health also earned the 2022 Maternity Honor Roll Award from the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Agency, Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) and Cal Hospital Compare (CHC) for reducing births by cesarean section.

UCI Health was also named one of the nation's the best hospitals for maternity care for 2022-23, earning a "high-performing" rating, the highest available, by U.S. News & World Report.

As the region’s only combined high-risk perinatal services center and designated regional neonatal intensive care unit, UCI Medical Center provides 24-hour critical, lifesaving services for mothers and newborns.

UCI Health maternal-fetal medicine experts are leading a national study to screen for cardiovascular disease during pregnancy, risk among pregnant women and are among the leaders in the California Maternal Quality Care Consortium’s ongoing efforts to improve the safety of maternity care, including preventative care for obstetrical hemorrhaging, cardiovascular risk and venous thromboembolism.
