Orange, Calif. — UCI Health — Orange, the flagship hospital of the 1,461-bed academic health system, has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Great Hospitals by Becker’s Hospital Review.

The achievement signifies the exceptional clinical care, dedication to patient safety and commitment to innovation, research and education at the growing UCI Health, which are powered by its connection to UC Irvine, a world-class research university.

“UCI Health is the only academic health system in Orange County, serving Orange and parts of Los Angeles counties with advanced, research-driven care for a diverse population. The system has expanded significantly with the creation of the UCI Health Community Network in 2024, following the acquisition of four community hospitals and their affiliated physicians and outpatient sites,” says Becker’s.

“The health system opened UCI Health — Irvine in December 2025, a first-of-its-kind, all-electric acute care hospital, setting a national benchmark for sustainability in healthcare. UCI Health boasts nationally adopted infection-prevention innovations, expanding in-home and telehealth services, and consistent safety and quality recognition.”

High-quality, safe care

UCI Health — Orange was also honored because of its continual recognition for high-quality, safe patient care by numerous national organizations, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Vizient Inc. and The Leapfrog Group.

The best in nursing

The medical center is a Magnet-designated hospital, and multiple nursing units have been recognized with Gold Beacon Awards from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Both are prestigious signifiers of nursing excellence.

Setting sustainability standards

As a sustainability innovator and a forever organization, UCI Health has been recognized for four consecutive years by healthcare sustainability organization Practice Greenhealth. In 2025, UCI Health earned its highest honor, the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award. It has also earned The Joint Commission’s Sustainable Healthcare Certification. It is the first University of California hospital and fourth healthcare organization in the state to be certified.
