Ataxia

Ataxia is a neurological condition that may impair a person's ability to walk, speak clearly, swallow, write, read and perform other activities that require fine motor control. Affecting people of all ages, ataxia can lead to severe and debilitating complications. 

Although ataxia can be challenging to diagnose, at UCI Health, our neurologists are experts who understand the disease and can provide an accurate diagnosis through medical and family history, neurological evaluation and additional studies, including advanced genetic testing. Along with a personalized treatment plan involving an occupational therapist, physician therapist and other specialists, patients with ataxia may also be eligible to participate in clinical trials, if interested.
