UCI Health named a top hospital by Newsweek
Also recognized as a global infection prevention leader
February 28, 2024
Orange, Calif. — UCI Health has been recognized as one of the top U.S. hospitals by Newsweek in its World’s Best Hospitals 2024 rankings. The health system is also being recognized as a global leader for infection prevention.
“It is immensely gratifying to see UCI Health recognized as one of the World’s Best Hospitals. This distinction is yet another testament to the relentless effort, compassion and unwavering commitment we provide to our patients and community,” said UCI Health President and CEO Chad T. Lefteris.
The World's Best Hospitals 2024 list recognizes the best medical institutions across 30 countries.
To assess the hospitals, Newsweek partnered with Statista, which developed a rigorous ranking methodology. Hospitals were evaluated in four key areas:
- Hospital recommendations from doctors, hospital managers and other healthcare professionals via an international survey.
- Patient experience, including satisfaction with the hospital, organization and medical care, as well as willingness to recommend the hospital.
- Hospital quality metrics, including quality of care, hygiene measures, and staffing.
- Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) implementation survey on the use of PROMs in the hospital setting. PROMs are patient-completed surveys that measure their perception of their overall quality of life and well-being.
Commitment to excellence
The accolade from Newsweek is the latest affirmation of the high-quality care delivered every day at UCI Health, Orange County’s only academic health system.
In 2023, healthcare safety and quality organization The Leapfrog Group recognized UCI Health with its prestigious Top Hospital Award, widely recognized as one of the most competitive awards a U.S. hospital can receive. Only 132 hospitals in the country received the recognition.
UCI Health was also recognized as a five-star hospital and a top 10 performer nationally in the 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Annual Ranking by Vizient Inc. UCI Medical Center was ranked in the top 10 for comprehensive academic medical centers in the U.S. for inpatient care.
And for the 23rd consecutive year, UCI Health was one of the nation’s best hospitals as ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 2023.
“These accolades underscore our role as Orange County's leading academic health system and affirm our ongoing dedication to delivering exceptional healthcare.”
