As the executive director of the first and oldest Federally Qualified Health Centers in Orange County, Dr. Jose Mayorga has positively impacted the lives of thousands of adults and children in Orange County.
Orange, Calif. — UCI Health family medicine physician Dr. Jose Mayorga has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of its Hispanic and Latino Leaders to Know for his advancement of the health of medically underserved communities.
As the executive director of the first and oldest Federally Qualified Health Centers in Orange County, UCI Health Family Health Center ― Anaheim and UCI Health Family Health Center ― Santa Ana, Mayorga has positively impacted the lives of thousands of adults and children in Orange County. In 2023, the centers in Santa Ana and Anaheim provided care to nearly 28,000 predominantly Latino patients, 97% of whom live below the federal poverty level. Of those served, 27% were children.

He oversees medical operations, expands services and ensures regulatory compliance while driving innovative care models, including virtual care for chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Under his leadership, the centers, serving nearly 28,000 predominantly low-income Latino patients, have achieved national recognition for quality care.
In 2020, he led the expansion of services at the Anaheim location and its relocation to a new 14,000-square-foot facility. He also led virtual care enhancement, using interdisciplinary care teams, which garnered recognition for its innovation as well as publications in scientific journals and invitations to speak at various conferences.
Under Mayorga’s leadership, the UCI Health Family Health Centers have been consistently recognized by the Health Resources and Services Administration for enhancing access, reducing health disparities and advancing health information technology.
Mayorga also teaches the next generation of medical professionals as an associate clinical professor in the UC Irvine School of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy. He strives to empower them to become leaders in primary care.
