Neurogenetics Program

Neurogenetics is a field of study that aims to determine genetic causes of nerve and brain disorders, including neurodegenerative disease, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular conditions and leukodystrophies. Using recent advances in genome sequencing, neurogenetics works to pinpoint genetic causes of inherited diseases.

The neurogenetics team at UCI Health provides a personalized approach to each patient who has been diagnosed with a genetic neurological disorder — as well as diagnoses and treats potentially at-risk family members — to help improve quality of life.

Why choose us

The UCI Health neurogenetics team diagnoses and treats rare genetic neurological disorders and neurometabolic conditions. Our team offers genetic counseling and testing for patients who do not have a diagnosis and carefully interpret results to develop a personalized treatment plan, not just for patients, but also their families who may wonder if they have an inherited disease.

Our team

Dr. Changrui Xiao, a board-certified neurologist, clinical geneticist and medical biochemical geneticist, spearheads the neurogenetics program at UCI Health. His clinical interests include inborn errors of metabolism, hereditary neurological disorders and lysosomal storage disorders.
